What I Learned From My Spouse Loss

My name is Dana Hall. My husband, Nathan Hall, was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma in February of 2004. He was then 32 years old. We had been married just 3 years.

In the days following Nathan's diagnosis, I struggled to get my head around this bomb that had been dropped in the middle of our marriage. I didn't know how to react, what to do, or even how to think about my spouse loss. I found myself walking a path I did not choose.

Over the next six years, he fought hard and I fought by his side. Nathan died on February 2, 2010. Since he’s been gone, I’ve been thinking about what I learned as a result of Nathan’s fight. What I learned about Nathan, about cancer, about myself, and about life.

On my journey of self-discovery, I have put together information that I wish someone had told me in the first month after Nathan was diagnosed. Things that it would have been good to know as we began to walk the path we did not choose. It doesn't have to be the end of life with cancer, but more of a beginning.
